Building Without Investors

We never raised money. Not out of principle at first, but out of circumstance — and then, over the years, out of preference.

Without outside capital, every decision has to pay for itself. That constraint turned out to be the most reliable design tool we have. It removes the option of buying growth and leaves only the option of earning it.

The result is slower, quieter, and far more durable. We ship fewer things, keep them alive longer, and answer to the people who actually use them.
