Agentic UX: the new standard for app interaction

For ten years we designed interfaces people use. Now we're designing interfaces that act.

Agentic UX isn't a rebrand — it's a measurable shift. Gartner expects 33% of enterprise apps to run agentic AI by 2028 (up from under 1% in 2024), 15% of day-to-day work decisions to be made autonomously, and 80% of common support issues resolved with no human by 2029.

It's already shipping: Perplexity Comet researches and acts on pages, agentic commerce is moving to open protocols (ACP, Instant Buy), and iOS 27 will open Apple Intelligence to Claude, Gemini and others this fall.

When the app acts on its own, the UI stops being about buttons and starts being about three things: trust, control, transparency. Users no longer ask "how do I tap this" — they ask "did you get me right, and why this path?"

**The catch:** Gartner also expects 40%+ of agentic projects to be cancelled by end of 2027 — unclear value, cost, weak controls. Teams that skip trust patterns land in that 40%.

The screen becomes the line between intent and execution. That's a refoundation, not a redesign.
